I am looking to run that type of setup too. I purchased an 18t cog and the Shimano Alfine tensioner (much cheaper than the paul's melvin. I still need some ss spacers and need to put my frt derailleur back on.

Hey all you SS dorks!! I got my bike yesterday. It's the same one I had all this time; Kona Explosif 26". All sexy bling'd out. I'm 'bout to put a hurtin' on ol' girl tomorrow. I borrowed Hawg's wife's bike the other weekend and I think gears and suspension confuse me too much. I don't have Strava but I do have Cyclemeter and I will most definitely be recording the ride. Fuggin' Strava dorks, I might have to download that one too just to be all buddy-buddy with you clowns on there so you can make fun of my inability to ride bikes.

Ha, I don't think strava is the devil everyone makes it out to be. I keep my stuff private in general but I can approve people who want to follow me (think FB 'friends'). Mostly it's a great way to keep track of where I ride and keep tabs on any improvement in my riding.

I just started to use it again as well. My wife likes runtastic because it gives her Facebook updates an she can keep tabs on me. I don't like it because I feel exposed and anyone could just find me and rape me at any point.

Strava that is, not my SS! I have had a few drinks. My "weapon" of choice is my SS kona Unit. Just put a set of Avid hydros on it to replace my BB7s. I'll see tomorrow how they perform. I kept getting bad glazing on my BB7 brakes even though they were bedded in and resurfaced properly. My dad offered me a free set of elixir 3s and I took them. Nothing beats free.

I downloaded Strava. I forgot to run it though, and haven't set it up yet. Can I run two ride tracking apps in unison? Paul, we Kona bros! I had. First run Unit (back when it was 26" and used OX Platinum) and now have an Explosif. Aren't you a Tejas dweller? You and Marp should come out to Cali and ride sometime, we can all Strava dork out.

I actually have quite a bit of family in LA. Too bad my aunt and uncle died and their kids are super stingy with the beach house. Otherwise an LA trip would be totally doable with a free beach house and car.

I believe you can on the iPhone. Don't know about other platforms...

Paul, I just realized you could compromise with her with Cyclemeter. It has the ability to send email updates to someone intermitenly so if you get hurt they know where you are.

I like your style, what better time to tinker with brakes than after a few drinks, hehe..

Sometimes, a few drinks are a required in order to maintain sanity when tinkering with brakes. ;)

He did write that it was Avid's, so a few drinks are sure required.

They worked very well the next day. No bedding or anything. Just got on the bike and rode. They also set up way quicker than my BB7s. The BB7s are going on the road bike now.

Time for a taco kick in this SS cave.

Am building a new rigid SS, and have been polluting the new toys thread with pix.Now realize this is the place, where other oddball SS fucktards may appreciate it.
A dedicated BB-7 curmudgeon is finally jumping into hydro's..

The Unit is going to become a burly SS city bike.

I'll soon be boring the snot outta y'all with moar bike porn.

Awesome brakes F_W, have the same set. Great modulation, easy to change pads and bleeding is soooooo easy. I'm a big fan of mineral oil instead of DOT fluid.

How can bike porn ever be boring?

I got Avid Hydros, and 3 bikes with Avid BB7's.

I think I like the BB7's better, for the most part.

Great brakes. At this point I doubt there are any better out there, counting out the Zee/Saint 4 piston version.
Those come at a weight penalty, so they're not for everyone.

Weight is not an issue with me if the performance and modulation are truly superior. That much weight ain't gonna make a shred of difference to me the way that I ride.

I've heard nothing but good stuff regarding the XT brakes. If my Hope Mono sets ever die (including the backup) then I may look into the XTs. :)
