and here i am getting ready to grab a gopro... but this thing shoots native 1080 and i can use my edge 510 as a remote? or my phone?

i really like the embedding of data right on the video. very damn cool.

I like where this device is going. The auto on / off for ski lifts has great potential, but how it will translate to other activities is unknown.

As for using an Edge as a remote control, I'm doubting the usefulness of this. There is no quick navigation on the edge, so it may be less convenient than the GoPro's wifi remote or iPhone app. Nonetheless, it is a step forward.

My list of multi-hundred dollars biking gadgets I "need" is simply growing too long.

if it only offers the option on the edge to turn it on and off, i would be far more inclined to grab it... but the embedding directly into video of hr cadence and speed is a win/win to me. and they promise it will work out of the box with garmin connect... which is a far cry beyond what then gopro offered.

i can live with 30 fps.

Me. I have been eyeballing cameras for a while now, and the extra features over a gopro make it a win in my book.

The ultimate spy camera ... To bad it will probably come with that new circuit (Apple Patent) that lets LE (anyone transmitting the right signal) shut it off.

Ohio State Police Headquarters: Attention all units, there's been a report in Hartville of a mountian biker taking video on his ride.

Ohio State Patrol Car #420: HQ, this is 420. In route to location now.

Ohio State Police Headquarters: Roger 420.

Ohio State Patrol Car #420: HQ, just checking GPS, I'm at least 25 minutes out from location.

Ohio State Police Headquarters: Roger 420...cancel the dispatch, we'll send out a chopper.

Ohio State Patrol Car #420: Roger, 420 out.

Ohio State Police Headquarters: Aviation, we need a chopper out at Hartville, seems a mountain biker is recording video of his ride.

Ohio State Police Aviation: Ten four dispatch, we're on the way. We'll get that camera shut down!

I need a camera that self-edits the video on the fly without my intervention. Then I may start taking some again. :-P

DC Rainmaker has some first impressions on the device and cites some conversations with Garmin. Interesting, but not really a review.

Not really a review, as he doesn't actually have a unit in his hands to test just yet...more of a "this is how it's supposed to work" kinda article.

I'm very curious for a real review....just have to wait a while I guess.

Yeah, I realized that shortly after posting (i.e., when I read a bit more). Nonetheless, it is more information than I've seen and it is pretty exciting about what it may be able to do.

I've been recently looking into Kinomap (http://www.kinomap.com/) and its integration into the KICKR trainer for the winter that is coming. It would be great if I could run around town and get some footage that would make for a basement rides much more palatable with winter.

It sure is a shame that Apple developed and is implementing the circuit ... Yes ?

It's all the excuse they need ... It will (eventually) be mandated.

Just like GPS for 911 (cellphone) calls ... It WILL happen ;)

Dam, that sux man, cuz I really enjoy taking MTB videos. At least, I USED to enjoy it, now that the cops won't let me.

Maybe it's only in Ohio?

The promotion video makes me dizzy. Shakey and full of jelly. Someone should come up with a good image stabilization solution, that is IMHO the only true progress to be desired.

Did anyone ever pick up a Virb?

Sent from a prototype communications device on loan from Marvin the Martian.
