Looks like a fair bit of climbing. I'd like to have that in my backyard! All's I got is a 5 mile pedal thru traffic to some paltry and now rutted/sandy trails.
It ain't like it used to be, but then neither am I.

Thanks.

Ya gotta be a climber if you're gonna be a So Cal dirt rider. I still like the sweet pain of consistent climbs but I too, am not what I used to be. It's a grind up that mountain canyon (nearly 400ft gain/mile) to get to the ridge. That route puts you in the shade for the climb which is helpful in the heat of the Summer. I passed another rider on the way up and he yelled "I was feeling pretty good about myself until you came along" as I approached. We both giggled as I passed by and wished each other a great ride.

The ridge way is awesome. You're at 2500'-3000' feet with views on both sides at times. The blast back down on Whiting Woods is always good and it's even steeper than the climb. Climbing that fire road (Whiting Woods) is brutal. I have only cleaned it a few times and I haven't even tried it in a few years. It's a real punishing climb.

A year or so ago I prolly would have kept up with you on the climbs. Roger is a Cat 1 racer, and your climbing is likely on a par with his. Just keep it up, once you get in that kinda cardio condition you have to keep it consistent. What you have done by training has caused some permanent changes in your heart, all for the better. But those changes cause mischief if you suddenly lay off for a few months or more. Tht's likely why Roger has a stent in a cardiac artery. Crazy....

Let me reiterate how lucky you are to live within riding distance of something like that. That's great!

No way I can compete/keep up with a Cat 1 racer, Ray. I would place myself somewhere between the middle and the back of the pack with experienced riders who are accomplished climbers.

Anyway, I did a big group ride today in the forest. There was 19 of us total. A few dropped out early. Myself and another buddy of mine dropped out about 2/3 through the ride. That still gave us 20 miles and 2400' elevation gain though, and at semi-high elevation, it was painful. My legs are fried.

Say hello to Korn for us, and don't kill him on our mountains.

Here on the Western Slope of Colorado staying with my Son's family. Did a couple of rides in the Junipers at 6000 feet. No time for pictures. Great trails and great fun.

No time for pictures? But time enough to tease us with words, lol?

Enjoy your time away!

I tried to kill him with our climbs but he just wouldn't die. Close, but no luck. ;)

He said he thinks that our elevation gain for the ride was likely his personal best. :D

Me before a group ride, 22 miles / 1700ft elevation gain. Not bad for a flat seashore!

And one from the ride.

Nice pics, guys. I did a ride yesterday too, but ran out of sunlight , just as I hit the trails, so most of my ride was done with lights on. Several bushes cursed me roundly for that. Nature is getting rude in that park. Or something.....
